HARD COAT ANODIZING
MIL-A-8625F TYPE III CLASS 1 OR 2 Sulfuric Anodizing

Hard Coat Anodizing is similar to standard anodizing, the surface of the aluminum is converted to aluminum oxide, but is produced at colder temperatures and creates a harder, smoother, and more wear resistant surface. It also has a thicker finish, typically .002 total thickness. Hard Coat Anodizing will also be darker in appearance then regular anodizing depending on the material.

Class I is natural hard coat and class II specifies a color. Hard Coat Anodizing durablity is much greater then regular anodizing.
