ASTM B633-19

Zinc Plating is a protective coating performed on the substrate to prevent the effects of corrosion or rust. Zinc plating is a “sacrificial” coating. The zinc chemically bonds to the part surface and corrodes before the base material. This will greatly extend the part life. As the coating oxidizes, the corrosion itself continues to provide a level of protection to the steel. Chromate is then applied to the zinc plating and provides even more protection as well as improving the appearance of the part.
